Laura A. Watanabe is a founding member of The Watanabe Law Firm, LLC. Her practice concentrates exclusively in the area of labor and employment law, focusing on the counseling and litigation of labor and employment matters. In representing management, executives, and employees, her practice addresses aspects of the law such as compensation, benefits, and pension matters, wage and hour issues, non-compete and non-disclosure agreements, actions for breach of contract and wrongful termination, and claims involving sex, race, national origin, age, disability and religious discrimination.
Ms. Watanabe represents clients in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. She has extensive litigation experience, having successfully tried labor and employment cases before federal and state courts throughout the United States as well as before various administrative agencies. Some of these agencies include the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Labor, the New York State Division on Human Rights, the New York City Commission on Human Rights, the National Labor Relations Board, and the California Fair Employment and Housing Commission.
Ms. Watanabe regularly conducts training workshops on matters concerning sexual harassment, employment discrimination, issues facing start-up and emerging growth companies, and compliance with wage and hour laws.
Prior to founding The Watanabe Law Firm, LLC, Ms. Watanabe practiced labor and employment law at international and national law firms. She began her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney. As a Deputy Bureau Chief in the Kings County District Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, New York, she taught trial practice after having prosecuted homicide and sex crime cases.
Ms. Watanabe received her B.S. from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in 1983, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and her J.D. from New England School of Law in 1986. She is a member of the New York State, Connecticut State, and California State Bars, and is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern District of New York, the United States District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of California, and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
